Free mail from victims

For victims who cannot send mails because of no stamps nor post cards, Japan Post Service deliver mails as “Mail from victims” from disaster areas to anywhere in Japan for free until the middle of April. Also five free post cards will be distributed to each family unit in the evacuation sites in the disaster areas.

Sending a mail by post card, standard mail and express mail is free in this service but it costs if you use registered mail or Yu-pack. When using this service you need to write 「災害用(さいがいよう)郵便(ゆうびん)」 in Kanji (it means “Mail from victims”) on an envelope or a card as well as your name and address in the disaster areas. If you cannot write 「災害用(さいがいよう)郵便(ゆうびん)」 in Kanji, please ask someone to write it on.
In Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, you can take these mails to the post offices in the disaster areas, drop them into a post box in the evacuation sites, or hand them to a postman (until Apr 15th).
In Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures, you need to go to the “Yu Yu Madoguchi” in the post offices in the disaster areas (until Apr 18th).
